Today a delegation of BTMA’s Board of Directors headed by Mr. Mohammad Ali Khokon, President BTMA, met Mr. Zanendra Nath Sarker, Chairman of Petrobangla at his Kawran Bazar office. Mr. Md Saleudh Zaman Khan, Vice-President of BTMA, Engr. Razeeb Haider, Mr. Masud Rana and Mr. Md. Azahar Khan, Directors of BTMA were present in the meeting. The President BTMA discussed the gas crisis and strongly presented the issue of high cost and scarcity of LNG and, huge financial losses being faced by businesses due to non-stop supply of gas to mills factories. The BTMA member also highlighted the disruption of production, decline in exports due to non-stop supply of gas to the mills. He requested the chairman of Petrobangla to ensure gas supply.
The chairman of Petrobangla said that there may be gas leakage in the supply line, as a result of improper use of gas and the tendency of gas theft, gas supply in many areas is not sufficient according to demand. He requested all the parties to be vigilant in eliminating these problems. The chairman of Petrobangla said that the government has started digging wells in certain places including Sylhet in order to extract more gas. He expressed hope that the government is committed to ensuring uninterrupted gas supply to the mills and will inform the higher levels of the government to take appropriate steps to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to the mills and obtain LNG at affordable prices.
