he Australian Cotton Shippers’ Association (ACSA) organized a seminar in Dhaka on May 12, 2024 with support from the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh held at The Westin Hotel. Mr. Minhaz Chowdhury, Senior Director of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, Bangladesh delivered the welcoming speech.
Mr. Mohammad Ali Khokon, President BTMA attended the seminar as a special guest and delivered his speech. The President BTMA highlighted Australian Cotton’s exceptional attributes, such as superior fiber strength, color grade, micronaire value, fiber length and contamination-free nature. Despite representing only about 9% of total cotton imports during that period, he expressed optimism about its potential growth, citing current global connectivity as a mitigating factor for geographical distance challenges. He anticipated an increase in Australian Cotton’s share to 13% to 15% by 2024.
Speakers from ACSA included Mr. Cliff White, Eliza Star, Ashley Hollis, and Matt Thompson. Mr. Md. Monir Hossain, Mr. Md. Masud Rana, Engr. Razeeb Haider, and Engr. Estahak Ahmed Shaikat, all honorable directors of BTMA, alongside numerous cotton importers and textile industry representatives participated in the discussions.
The seminar focused on highlighting the cotton supply chain and quality enhancement for Bangladeshi millers.
